Optimus Machinery
Machinery for homes, acreage and small farms

Machinery you can actually afford to own.

Mini excavators, track loaders and concrete mixers priced for people with a block of land and a long list of jobs, not for hire fleets. Small enough to fit through the side gate. Simple enough to learn in an afternoon.

The machines

Three machines that do most jobs around a property

Plain-English facts, not spec sheets. If you want the full build sheet on any of them, just ask.

Mini excavator silhouette

Mini excavator

The all-rounder. Digs, lifts, levels and pulls things out. The one-tonne model is the size of a large ride-on mower.

  • Digs a trench about 1.7 m deep
  • Fits through a 1 m gate, tracks widen for stability
  • Footings, drainage, stumps, retaining walls, post holes
  • Larger models to 8 t for acreage and sheds

Mini track loader silhouette

Mini track loader

Stand on the back, steer with the handles, and move mulch, soil, gravel and firewood without a wheelbarrow.

  • Lifts around 300 kg in the bucket
  • Fits through a 1 m gate, gentle on lawns
  • Swap the bucket for forks, an auger, a trencher or a dozer blade
  • Sit-in skid-steers available for bigger blocks

Concrete mixer silhouette

Concrete mixer

For slabs, footings and post holes where a concrete truck is a long wait or can’t get in. The tracked mini mixer mixes a load, drives itself to the spot and tips it out.

  • Tracked mixers in 200, 360 and 500 L, all 700 mm wide
  • Towable drum mixers from 350 L
  • Larger self-loaders weigh, mix and pour from the seat
  • Shed slabs, fence footings, paths, water tank bases

Need something bigger, or working on a farm or a trade job? We also stock excavators up to 40 tonne, wheel loaders and a full range of buckets, breakers, augers and grapples. Tell us the job and we’ll send the build sheets.

Tracked cement mixers

Three sizes. All of them drive the mix to the pour.

Every one of these runs a Briggs & Stratton petrol engine on rubber tracks, is 700 mm wide, and tips the load out hydraulically. Pick the drum size that suits the jobs you do.

Tracked Cement Mixer 200 L

Best for backyards, tight access and one-person jobs

Heavy-Duty Tracked Cement Mixer 360 L

Best for slabs, footings and acreage jobs with rough ground

The all-rounder. A 360 L drum, a 13.5 HP Briggs & Stratton engine and 180 mm tracks that handle mud, gravel and slopes. The 100° dumping angle and 760 mm spout mean it empties cleanly where you point it.

Tracked Concrete Mixer 500 L

Best for bigger pours, sheds, driveways and small commercial work

The big drum. Same 13.5 HP Briggs & Stratton engine and tracked chassis as the 360, with a 500 L barrel for fewer loads on larger pours. Still 700 mm wide, so it gets into places a truck never will.

  • Briggs & Stratton XR2100 petrol engine, 13.5 HP
  • 500 L drum, 750 mm mixing mouth
  • 180 mm tracks, 1200 mm on the ground

Own vs hire

When does owning stack up?

Hiring makes sense for a one-off weekend. It stops making sense sooner than most people expect. Put your own numbers in and see.

  • No return deadline. The job takes as long as it takes. Rain on Sunday doesn’t cost you another day’s hire.
  • No float or trailer runs. It lives in your shed, ready for the next job.
  • It holds value. A well-kept mini machine sells on. Hire receipts don’t.
  • Priced to own. Our range is priced so that buying is realistic for a household, not just a business.

Your hire spend, added up

Example figures shown. Change them to your local hire rates and the machine price we quote you.

Hire spend$18,000
Buy it once$14,900

Ownership costs like fuel, servicing and insurance aren’t included; nor is the resale value at the end. This is a rough guide, not financial advice.

Who buys from us

Mostly people who’ve never owned a machine

They have a block, a to-do list, and a pile of hire receipts. That’s who we set up for.

  • Homeowners with a big backyard

Retaining walls, pools, drainage, the landscaping you keep putting off.

  • Acreage and hobby farms

Fencing, dams, tracks, firewood, feed. Something always needs moving.

  • Owner-builders

Site prep, footings, trenching and a slab, without booking a contractor for each one.

  • Small trades

Landscapers, fencers and plumbers who are sick of waiting on hire gear.

Questions

Things people ask before they buy

Do I need a licence to drive it?

In most of Australia there is no licence for operating an excavator or loader on your own property, but you are responsible for using it safely. We walk you through the controls at handover and point you to your state’s safety guidance. If you plan to use it for paid work, check the rules for your trade and state.

How hard is it to learn?

Most people are digging a tidy trench within an hour. The controls are two joysticks and two pedals, and the machines are slow enough to be forgiving. We do a handover on your property, and you can call us any time with a question.

Why are your prices lower than the big brands?

We sell a focused range of proven models and keep them in stock, rather than every variant in a catalogue. We run a working yard, not a showroom with a commissioned sales team. And the price we quote is the delivered price, so there’s nothing added at the end.

Ask us

Tell us the jobs. We’ll tell you what suits.

Not sure what size you need, or whether owning stacks up for you? Describe the block and the jobs and we’ll give you a straight answer and a delivered price, usually within two business days.
